Papers, ca. 1931-1992.

Papers of architect William Vogt Kaeser, including those from the periods of his association with Arthur M. McLeod (1951-1979) and with Marcus E. Weston (1966-1979), and from his close working relationship with Madison builder Marshall Erdman. A student of Jacques Carlu and Eliel Saarinen, Kaeser worked briefly for Madison architect Frank Riley before establishing his own office. He also worked as a city planner under Madison, Wis. mayor James Law. During World War II he was appointed the Area Engineer (with the eventual rank of captain in the Army Corps of Engineers) in charge of construction of the Badger Ordnance Works. Occasionally referred to as "Madison's Organic Architect," Kaeser's projects emphasized the site and often utilized indigenous building materials.
